Desiccants for Power Plants & Instrumentation

Reliable moisture control for breathers, panels and switchgear.

The moisture challenge

In power generation and transmission, moisture inside transformer breathers, control panels, relays and switchgear leads to insulation breakdown, corrosion and unplanned downtime. Because this equipment operates continuously and is expensive to service, maintaining a dry internal environment is a core reliability task.

Aharnish Desiccant supplies blue indicating silica gel for transformer breathers and panels, giving maintenance teams a clear visual check on remaining capacity, along with molecular sieve for sealed instrumentation that requires the lowest humidity.

Power Plants & Instrumentation moisture control with Aharnish desiccants

Common moisture challenges

  • Moisture ingress into transformer breathers and panels
  • Insulation breakdown and corrosion risk
  • Continuous operation with limited service windows
  • Visual verification of desiccant condition

How we help

  • Clear colour-change indication for maintenance
  • Regenerable and reusable to reduce cost
  • Molecular sieve for sealed instrumentation
  • Consistent quality for critical equipment
FAQ

Power Plants & Instrumentation desiccants — FAQ

Blue indicating silica gel is the traditional choice for transformer breathers because its blue-to-pink colour change clearly shows when the desiccant is saturated and needs regeneration. Cobalt-free orange silica gel is available where a non-cobalt indicator is required.

Yes. Saturated silica gel from breathers can be reactivated by heating at 110–120°C until it returns to its dry colour, then cooled in a sealed container before reuse, reducing ongoing consumable cost.
