Desiccants for Power Plants & Instrumentation
Reliable moisture control for breathers, panels and switchgear.
In power generation and transmission, moisture inside transformer breathers, control panels, relays and switchgear leads to insulation breakdown, corrosion and unplanned downtime. Because this equipment operates continuously and is expensive to service, maintaining a dry internal environment is a core reliability task.
Aharnish Desiccant supplies blue indicating silica gel for transformer breathers and panels, giving maintenance teams a clear visual check on remaining capacity, along with molecular sieve for sealed instrumentation that requires the lowest humidity.

Common moisture challenges
- Moisture ingress into transformer breathers and panels
- Insulation breakdown and corrosion risk
- Continuous operation with limited service windows
- Visual verification of desiccant condition
How we help
- Clear colour-change indication for maintenance
- Regenerable and reusable to reduce cost
- Molecular sieve for sealed instrumentation
- Consistent quality for critical equipment

The products we most often recommend for this sector.

Silica Gel Blue
At Aharnish Desiccant, we offer premium-quality Silica Gel Blue, a synthetic, amorphous form of silicon dioxide embedded with cobalt chloride as a moisture indicator. This self-indicating desiccant exhibits a distinct color change—appearing deep blue when dry and gradually turning pink as it absorbs moisture. Once the material is saturated, the pink hue indicates the need for regeneration or replacement.

Silica Gel Orange
Aharnish Desiccant offers Silica Gel Orange, a high-performance, self-indicating desiccant known for its exceptional moisture-absorbing capacity. Infused with an organic indicator, Silica Gel Orange can absorb up to 40% of its weight in moisture, ensuring superior moisture control for a wide range of applications.

Molecular Sieves
At Aharnish Desiccant, we offer Molecular Sieve Desiccant, a highly specialized, high-performance desiccant designed for precise moisture control in environments with low humidity or where extremely low moisture levels are required. Molecular sieve desiccants are synthetic zeolites with a highly ordered and precise microporous structure, allowing them to selectively adsorb water molecules and other gases based on size and polarity.

Blue indicating silica gel is the traditional choice for transformer breathers because its blue-to-pink colour change clearly shows when the desiccant is saturated and needs regeneration. Cobalt-free orange silica gel is available where a non-cobalt indicator is required.
Yes. Saturated silica gel from breathers can be reactivated by heating at 110–120°C until it returns to its dry colour, then cooled in a sealed container before reuse, reducing ongoing consumable cost.
