Desiccants for Packaging & Export Logistics
Defend cargo against container rain, mould and corrosion in transit.
Long-distance shipping exposes goods to dramatic humidity and temperature swings. Inside a sealed container, moisture evaporates during the day and condenses on the ceiling and walls at night — so-called container rain — dripping onto cargo and causing mould, caking, label damage and rust. For exporters, a single damaged consignment can mean rejected shipments and lost customers.
Aharnish Desiccant supplies high-capacity silica gel bags and economical clay desiccants for cartons, pallets and full container loads. We help packaging and logistics teams calculate the right desiccant quantity for their cargo volume, transit time and route humidity.

The quantity depends on cargo volume, transit time, packaging and route humidity. As a starting point, exporters commonly use several kilograms of desiccant per 20-foot container, increasing for moisture-sensitive cargo or tropical routes. Contact us with your shipment details for a tailored recommendation.
Container rain occurs when humid air inside a sealed container condenses on cooler surfaces overnight and drips onto cargo. High-capacity container desiccants adsorb the excess water vapour so it cannot condense, protecting goods from moisture damage.
Silica gel offers higher absorption capacity and is ideal for moisture-sensitive goods, while clay desiccant is more economical for high-volume general cargo in moderate humidity. Many exporters use a mix depending on the value and sensitivity of the cargo.
